KGCS Reading Comprehension
Instructional Framework
The KGCS
pacing guides feature a division-wide K-6 comprehension framework that should
inform your instructional decisions throughout the year. Each quarter has been
divided into an “a” and “b” segment, with a different comprehension focus for
each segment. The intent of this framework is to unite the division in common
instructional goals, vocabulary, and initiative. A common focus will assist in
horizontal and vertical planning, and in coordinating instruction with special
education, gifted, and intervention programs.
These comprehension skills can be taught during read alouds, shared
reading, and small group instruction in text.
Students should be using the academic language of the strategies (e.g.
“I predict that…) during guided and independent practice.
